Qingchuan Bridge, bridge in Wuhan
Qingchuan Bridge is a steel arch bridge in Wuhan that crosses the Han River and connects two parts of the city. The structure stretches approximately 990 meters in total length with a main span of nearly 303 meters (994 feet) and features a distinctive red painted surface.
Construction began in December 1997 and was completed in the year 2000, after which the bridge opened to traffic. The structure was originally toll-based, but with the introduction of modern electronic toll systems, the toll booths were eventually removed.
The bridge is known locally as the Rainbow Bridge due to its bright red color and distinctive curved shape spanning the river. Decorative reliefs and murals along its structure tell stories and reflect the cultural heritage of the Jingchu region.
Access to the bridge is straightforward via several city buses, including lines 30, 531, and 532, which stop at Qingchuan Pavilion Station. From there, it is just a short walk to reach the bridge, making it convenient for visitors.
The bridge was built as the fourth crossing over the Han River and serves as the city's third motorway bridge designed to improve traffic flow. Its bright red color and distinctive arch shape make it a recognizable landmark in Wuhan's skyline.
