Bride's Pool, Natural pool and waterfall system in Tai Po District, Hong Kong
Bride's Pool is a water system with multiple cascading waterfalls and deep pools located in Plover Cove Country Park. The water flows continuously through rocky terrain, creating a series of natural pools of varying sizes.
During the early colonial period, this water system served as a crucial freshwater source for local communities in the northeastern New Territories. The formation developed over centuries through natural erosion and has been used by residents for generations.
The name comes from a local legend about a bride whose sedan chair fell into the stream during a storm on her wedding day.
The best access is via minibus 20R from Tai Po Market MTR station, with the journey taking about ninety minutes. Sturdy footwear and caution are important, as the rocks can be slippery, especially after rainfall.
The rock formations create natural platforms where water flows in different patterns depending on seasonal rainfall. In summer, when water flow is stronger, more dramatic waterfall effects appear, while drier months bring gentler streams.
