Shatoujiao Port, Port of entry in Yantian District, Shenzhen, China.
Shatoujiao Port is a border crossing in the eastern part of Shenzhen, handling both maritime freight and passenger traffic between mainland China and Hong Kong. The facility is divided into separate zones for cargo and passenger processing, each with its own control stations.
The port was established in the 1980s when Shenzhen was designated as a special economic zone and trade with Hong Kong began to expand rapidly. As the city grew, the crossing took on a central role in linking the two territories by sea.
The port sits in the Shatoujiao district, whose name refers to an old fishing village that once stood on this stretch of coast. Today the area is shaped by the constant movement of goods and people crossing between the mainland and Hong Kong.
Anyone crossing here needs valid travel documents, as border and customs checks are mandatory for all passengers. Arriving with extra time is a good idea, since processing can slow down during busy periods.
Unlike most land border crossings between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, this port handles both cargo ships and passenger ferries on the same waterway. This makes it one of the few points along the border where goods and travelers share the same maritime route.
