Ponte 16, hôtel chinois
Ponte 16 is a hotel on the waterfront of Macau, China, with rooms and suites overlooking either the harbor or the historic city center. The building belongs to the Sofitel group and combines modern facilities with a classic interior design.
The site where the hotel stands was originally part of a fortified area by the water, built to defend the city, and later became a busy commercial and port district. The hotel opened in 2008, making it one of the newer additions to this part of the waterfront.
The name Ponte 16 comes from Pier 16, the old harbor berth that once stood on this stretch of waterfront. The hotel's restaurants serve both Chinese and Portuguese dishes, reflecting the mix that defines everyday food culture in Macau.
The hotel is within walking distance of ferry terminals and bus stops, which makes getting to other parts of Macau or nearby cities straightforward. Most historic sites in the old city are also reachable on foot from here, so comfortable shoes are a good idea.
Inside the hotel, a separate wing called The Mansion at Sofitel contains 19 individually decorated suites, each with a different layout and character. Many guests are unaware that this section operates with its own entrance concept and private common areas, setting it apart from the rest of the building.
