SuperTerminal 1, Logistics center at Hong Kong International Airport, Hong Kong.
SuperTerminal 1 is a cargo handling center at Hong Kong International Airport, located on Chek Lap Kok island in the Islands District. The building spans several floors of warehouse space, loading docks, and automated sorting lines that process freight moving in and out of aircraft.
SuperTerminal 1 opened in 1998, the same year the airport relocated from the old Kai Tak site to the newly built island of Chek Lap Kok. It was part of a large effort to expand cargo infrastructure and position Hong Kong as a central point for air freight across Asia.
SuperTerminal 1 shows what cargo operations look like at one of the world's busiest air freight hubs. Visitors can observe refrigerated storage areas, sorting floors, and conveyor systems running around the clock.
This is not a publicly accessible site, so prior arrangements with the operator are needed before planning a visit. Those with a professional interest in logistics or air freight are most likely to gain access.
The building was designed by the same office behind the airport's main passenger terminal, Norman Foster's practice, giving both structures a coherent look. The center also has a dedicated interchange system that allows cargo from southern China to transfer between aircraft and trucks without leaving the airport grounds.
