Zhongzhou Yangtze River Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge across Yangtze River in Chongqing, China.
The Zhongzhou Yangtze River Bridge is a cable-stayed structure spanning 2,145 meters across the river with two towers from which steel cables support the roadway. The bridge carries the G50 Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway, connecting major transportation hubs throughout central China.
The bridge opened in 2009, marking a turning point in the region where traditional ferry crossings were replaced by modern highway connections. This shift enabled faster and more reliable links between the banks in Zhong County.
The bridge is part of the modern transportation network that links this region to other major cities, showing how travel methods have transformed in this valley. Today, travelers use it daily to cross quickly between the banks instead of waiting for ferries as people did in the past.
Access to the bridge is via the G50 Expressway, allowing vehicles to drive directly from the highway. Clearance heights vary across the span, so drivers of tall vehicles should take this into account.
The bridge was designed with varying clearance heights between 84 and 134 meters to handle water level fluctuations from the reservoir. This adaptation was necessary because the Three Gorges Dam reservoir causes the water level to change seasonally.
