Wulingshan Bridge

Wulingshan Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge crossing a deep gorge with two planes of cables anchored to tall A-frame towers. The structure carries four lanes of traffic and forms a crucial link across challenging mountainous terrain.

The bridge opened in 2009 as part of a major expressway connecting Chongqing to Hunan Province. This project significantly improved transportation links across a previously difficult mountain region.

Wulingshan Bridge represents Chinese engineering capabilities through its precise design and implementation in challenging mountainous terrain over the Wujiang River gorge.

The bridge is most easily reached from the nearby town of Pengshui and offers good viewing points from several spots along the roadway. The best time to photograph it is during daylight, especially when the sky is clear.

The structure sits among the world's highest cable-stayed bridges, crossing a valley at a height that rivals some mountain peaks. This extreme elevation above ground makes it a striking feat of engineering in one of China's steepest regions.
