Ho Tung Lau, Colonial mansion in Sha Tin District, Hong Kong.

Ho Tung Lau is a two-story mansion with a veranda and two distinctive Cant Bays flanking the main entrance on either side. The roof was designed to function as a balcony, adding to the outdoor living space.

The mansion was built in 1923 by Ho Sai Wing, Robert Hotung's adopted son, and was originally named Windermere after the English lake. The name was later changed to honor its prominent patron.

The building housed Wah Kiu College from 1938 to 1941, serving students after the school relocated from Foshan to escape wartime instability. It functioned as an important educational space for the local community during a turbulent period.

The site became increasingly restricted following the establishment of Sha Tin Airfield in 1949, affecting general access to the grounds. Visitors are advised to check current conditions in advance and inquire locally about any access limitations.

Although the mansion was named after Robert Hotung, he never visited it himself, yet his wife Margaret Mak made three visits during its time of existence. This unusual connection reveals the complex family relationships behind its founding.
