Penfold Park, Public park in Sha Tin District, Hong Kong.
Penfold Park is a public park in Sha Tin District located within the Sha Tin Racecourse grounds. The space features walking trails, artificial lakes, and traditional Chinese pavilions positioned around its perimeter.
The park opened in 1979 when the Hong Kong Jockey Club created this space and named it after retiring General Manager Bernard Penfold. This creation marked an important addition to recreational facilities in the region during that period.
The pedestrian tunnel displays carousel-themed murals painted by charitable organizations to mark Hong Kong's handover in 1997. These artworks reflect a significant moment that visitors pass through on their way to the green space.
The park can be reached through Racecourse and Fo Tan stations on the East Rail Line. Plan your visit between 9 AM and 6:30 PM when the grounds are open to the public.
The park served as a venue for equestrian sports during the 2008 Olympics and now displays the Olympic cauldron and five rings as permanent fixtures. These remnants from the Games remind visitors of the location's connection to that international event.
