Goddess of Democracy, Democracy monument at Chinese University, Hong Kong

The Goddess of Democracy is a 6.4-metre faux-bronze statue of a robed woman raising a torch in her right hand and holding a book inscribed "BREAD FOR ALL / OF DEMOCRACY / FOR ALL" against her chest. Sculpted by Chen Weiming, it stood on the lawn of the University Station square at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2010 until its removal in 2021.

Sculptor Chen Weiming completed this 6.4-metre faux-bronze figure in 2008; it was shown in Washington, New York and Los Angeles before the Hong Kong Alliance borrowed it in 2010. Police seized it at Times Square in Causeway Bay on 29 May 2010, and after a night-time handover students escorted it into the Chinese University of Hong Kong on 4 June 2010. It stood by the University station exit for over eleven years until the university removed it early on 24 December 2021.

Annual gatherings near the statue served as a central point for Hong Kong residents to remember and honor those affected by the 1989 events.

The location was accessible to visitors until December 2021 and was situated on the university campus. Note that the statue is no longer at its original location.

The statue's book reads "BREAD FOR ALL" and "OF DEMOCRACY" in the photograph, while the sculptor's own account describes the cover as bearing "LIBERTY, DEMOCRACY, JUSTICE, HUMAN RIGHT". A 4.8-tonne concrete base was added in July 2010 to steady the figure, fixed with wire stays.
