Tao Heung Foods of Mankind Museum, Food museum in Fo Tan district, Hong Kong
The Tao Heung Foods of Mankind Museum is a food museum in the Fo Tan district of Hong Kong, displaying close to a thousand objects from many parts of the world. The collection covers herbs, food samples, cutlery, and kitchen tools from a wide range of regions and cooking traditions.
The museum was first set up in Fanling before it moved to its current location in Fo Tan. After renovation work, it reopened to visitors in October 2005.
The ground floor traces how food practices developed in ancient Egypt, with objects that come directly from that period. Separate sections show how tea, coffee, and wine became central to eating habits in many parts of the world.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, with morning and afternoon time slots for visits. Plan enough time to walk through all the exhibition areas, as there is quite a bit to see.
The museum runs hands-on workshops where visitors can make chocolate and try out cooking techniques from different countries. This lets you learn about food through direct experience rather than only looking at objects behind glass.
