Sai Lam Temple, Buddhist temple in Sha Tin District, Hong Kong.

Sai Lam Temple is a Buddhist temple built in 1923 on a hillside in Sheung Wo Che village, Sha Tin. Its entrance gate bears a plaque with the characters "西林" and a couplet; near the entrance are a lotus pond and a tall white magnolia tree. The lower level has three buildings, including a two-storey guesthouse and a three-storey former vegetarian restaurant, and steps lead up to the former "Great Vow Gate", which was demolished during renovations. The temple was converted into five columbarium blocks with 3,000 niches in 2009.

Liang Ziheng, a native of Nanhai in Guangdong, built Sai Lam Temple in 1923 at Sheung Wo Che village, closing his two vegetarian restaurants in Kowloon to do so. The monk Yuexi, founder of the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery, stayed there in 1933. After abbot Huanqing died in 1980, the temple was sold to a Thai consortium; it fell into ruin, and in 2009 the site was rebuilt as five columbarium halls holding 3,000 niches.

The temple's name appears on the gatehouse plaque, flanked by a couplet reading "West tower, Dharma hall, fit to cultivate the Dharma; Forest gathers the Zen gate, one must learn Zen." In the 1960s and 1970s, Sai Lam Road in front of the temple held restaurants and a small amusement park, and Cantonese films were shot there.

Sai Lam Temple stands in Sheung Wo Che village, on the hillside opposite Sha Tin station, reached by a short walk up Sai Lam Road. The 2009 conversion into five columbarium blocks left the old temple buildings derelict, so expect uneven ground and rubble rather than a maintained shrine. The site is private property and the columbarium use was ruled a breach of the land lease.
