Che Kung Miu

Che Kung Miu is a Taoist temple in Sha Tin District that features traditional Chinese design elements including green glazed ceramic tiles and intricate carved details. A large statue of General Che Kung stands as the focal point within the main prayer hall.

The temple was built during the late Ming Dynasty and became an established pilgrimage site for the local community over centuries. A major expansion in 1994 created a substantially larger facility to accommodate the steadily increasing number of visitors.

The temple draws large crowds during Lunar New Year, when visitors spin the wheel of fortune and light incense for blessings in the year ahead. These practices form the heart of how people engage with the place during this season.

The temple is located in the Tai Wai area and is open daily with free admission, though voluntary donations help support maintenance. Most days are quiet, but during major holidays and especially around Lunar New Year, expect large crowds.

The temple is famous for its fan-bladed wheel of fortune that visitors spin during Lunar New Year to determine their luck. This practice has become so central to the experience that many people visit specifically to participate in this ritual.
