New Town Tower, Commercial tower in Sha Tin, Hong Kong, China
New Town Tower is a twelve-story office building on Pak Hok Ting Street in Sha Tin, one of the main districts of Hong Kong's New Territories. Its glass facade faces a busy street close to the main train station, making it easy to spot from the surrounding area.
The building opened in 2001, during a period when Sha Tin was growing rapidly from a rural district into an urban business center. Large-scale development projects had been reshaping the area since the 1970s, and this tower was part of that ongoing change.
Sha Tin grew from a small market town into one of Hong Kong's main business centers, and the tower sits at the heart of that change. People passing through the area on a weekday will notice a steady flow of office workers moving between the train station and the surrounding buildings.
The tower is a short walk from Sha Tin station on the East Rail Line, making it easy to reach by train from central Hong Kong. Since the building is mainly used for offices, visiting on a weekday during working hours is the best approach if you need to reach a specific tenant.
Right next to the building, the HKJC Communications Centre and a Biotech Centre create an unusual pocket of technology-focused facilities in what might otherwise seem like a standard commercial street. This concentration makes the immediate surroundings of the tower different from most office areas in Hong Kong.
