Ho Pui Reservoir, Irrigation reservoir in Hong Kong
Ho Pui Reservoir is a small water body in northwestern Yuen Long District designed to supply water for local farming. A loop trail encircles it with shaded sections, a distinctive bamboo grove, and views of surrounding hills reflecting in the calm water.
The reservoir was built primarily to support local farming through controlled water supply and remains part of a managed water system for the area. It stands as a testament to how agriculture shaped the region's development over decades.
The name Ho Pui comes from local Cantonese and reflects the area's agricultural roots. Visitors walk here to connect with a part of Hong Kong's rural heritage that still survives in the countryside.
Reach the site by taking the MTR to Yuen Long Station, then catching a minibus to Ho Pui Tsuen village at the trailhead. The walk is easy and suitable for all ages, taking roughly 30 to 40 minutes to complete the loop with gentle elevation and shaded sections throughout.
A distinctive bamboo grove along the trail creates an unexpectedly serene forest pocket that draws many visitors to pause and photograph. Though modest in scale compared to famous bamboo gardens elsewhere, it offers a quiet green space that contrasts nicely with the open water views.
