Approach Beach, Public beach in Tsuen Wan District, Hong Kong.

Approach Beach is a gazetted public beach at 10½ milestone Castle Peak Road between Yau Kom Tau and Ting Kau. Its shore is a stone beach: rocks line the water and hard objects lie in the sand. It looks toward the Ting Kau and Tsing Ma bridges.

Approach Beach was a natural beach used by swimmers after Castle Peak Road opened. In 1952 the government leased plots for permanent bathing sheds, replacing self-built huts; about 50 sheds were later managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. The beach was gazetted in May 1987 with Hong Kong Jockey Club support, closed in May 1995 due to oil pollution and bridge construction, and reopened on 15 June 2011 after water quality improved.

About 50 single-storey bathing sheds, each roughly 300 square feet, were built from 1952 after the government leased plots to replace swimmer-built shacks; swimming clubs such as Oriental Winter Swimming Club and Nam Shan Swimming Club have used them as clubhouses and changing rooms. The sheds are now managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

Approach Beach sits on Castle Peak Road at the 10.5-mile mark between Yau Kom Tau and Ting Kau. Changing rooms, showers, toilets, bathing sheds and two barbecue pits stand on site, and lifeguards are posted again since the 2011 reopening. The shore is stony, with hard objects in the sand, so footwear helps.

This is one of only two bathing spots in the district where people can swim in Victoria Harbour waters. The scarcity of swimming locations makes this place especially valuable for swimmers in the area.
