Tsing Yi Pier, defunct pier in Tsing Yi, Hong Kong
Tsing Yi Pier is a ferry terminal on the east side of Tsing Yi Island in Hong Kong, built on reclaimed land along Rambler Channel. A simple covered walkway extends over the water, connecting the boarding area to the surrounding residential blocks on the shore.
The pier was established before 1961 to give Tsing Yi residents a water link to the mainland, replacing an older landing point in Tsing Yi Town that was later buried under land reclamation. Through the 1960s it connected the island to Tsuen Wan and Central at a time when ferry routes were among the only ways to reach the city.
The pier is a daily transit point for residents of nearby housing estates who pass through on their way to work or pause to watch the water. The view over Rambler Channel, with cargo ships moving in the background, is a familiar part of everyday life for people in this part of Tsing Yi.
The pier is reachable on foot from Tsing Yi MTR station, and several bus routes stop nearby. Signage is in both Chinese and English, and the paths leading to the waterfront are flat and easy to follow.
In June 2024, a cargo ship collided with the pier and caused damage, though no one was hurt. The incident shows how close the commercial shipping lanes in Rambler Channel run to this small local landing point.
