The Headquarters of General Du Wenxiu

The Headquarters of General Du Wenxiu is a building in Dali featuring traditional Chinese architecture with a central courtyard surrounded by ceremonial and administrative rooms. The structure clearly reveals how the spaces were organized to manage military and government operations.

In the 19th century during the Panthay Rebellion, General Du Wenxiu established this location as a command center against Qing Dynasty forces. This conflict was a major uprising in southwestern China that lasted several decades.

The site displays artifacts from both Han and Hui communities, showing how different groups coexisted in Yunnan during this period. Objects on display reveal daily life, beliefs, and traditions shared by people from these two backgrounds.

The location is open daily and visitors can move through the spaces easily since they are clearly laid out. Guided tours are available and help explain the purpose and history of the different rooms and areas.

The building houses an early printing press that was used to print copies of the Quran in China. This was a groundbreaking moment for Islamic literature and religious practice in the country.
