Dafengmilu National Natural Reserve

The reserve encompasses 78,000 hectares of coastal wetlands, tidal flats, seasonal streams, and salt marshes along the Yellow Sea coast in Jiangsu Province.

In 1986, thirty-six Pere David's deer from British zoological gardens were introduced to establish a new population in their native Chinese habitat.

The reserve maintains a memorial tomb dedicated to the initial group of Pere David's deer that returned to China from the United Kingdom.

The protected area contains observation platforms and educational facilities where visitors can learn about wetland ecosystems and wildlife conservation.

The population of Pere David's deer in the reserve increased from 36 specimens in 1986 to approximately 950 by 2006.
