Yucheng Postal Stop is a historical postal station in Gaoyou that spreads across a large area and includes several building wings. The compound preserves artifacts and exhibits that document how Chinese communication methods developed across different dynasties.
The station was founded in 1375 during the Ming Dynasty and served as an important hub for couriers and boats. It survived several fires and damage, including a major fire in 1557, and was later rebuilt several times under the Qing Dynasty.
The building displays architectural features from the Ming and Qing periods that show how the postal system worked. Visitors can see how the spaces were arranged for daily work by couriers and officials.
The site sits conveniently along the Grand Canal and is easy to walk through at your own pace, taking time to visit different areas. It helps to wear comfortable shoes and arrive earlier in the day to see the rooms in good light.
This compound is the largest surviving ancient courier station in all of China and shows how important this route was to the empire. Its location right on the Grand Canal made it possible to send messengers quickly by horse or boat.
