定慧寺

Dinghui Temple occupies a large rural setting with multiple buildings and courtyards arranged across the grounds, with main halls displaying Buddhist statues. The complex also includes a tall tower that allows visitors to see views toward nearby mountains and the surrounding region.

The temple was founded in the early 4th century and underwent multiple name changes and reconstructions through the centuries. Following significant damage in the mid-20th century, it was rebuilt into the form visitors encounter today.

The temple functions as a spiritual gathering place where visitors see different Buddhist statues arranged in separate halls according to religious importance. The spatial layout guides people through spaces of increasing reverence, creating a natural rhythm as one moves deeper into the complex.

The grounds are walkable throughout, with paths and stairs connecting the various buildings and allowing visitors to move between levels. The best times to explore are early morning or late afternoon when fewer crowds are present and lighting is favorable for viewing the structures.

The temple displays distinctive yellow walls, a color traditionally reserved for structures of imperial standing. This striking visual marker reveals the site's elevated historical importance and its rank within religious and state institutions.
