The Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge extends over 62 kilometers across the Lower Yangtze River, featuring a suspension section with two main spans of 1,080 meters each and southern box girder spans totaling 2,905 meters in length.
Construction of the bridge began in December 2007 after initial planning in 1998, and it officially opened on November 25, 2012, marking the first bridge to feature both a three-tower continuous suspension design and 1,000-meter main spans.
The bridge received the Outstanding Structure Award in 2014 and the Institution of Structural Engineers Supreme Award in 2013, symbolizing progress in Chinese infrastructure development and engineering achievements recognized internationally.
The bridge accommodates approximately 30,000 vehicles daily with a width of 34.8 meters, reducing travel time between Taizhou and neighboring cities from two hours to one hour, enhancing regional logistics and economic connectivity.
The bridge incorporates a dehumidification system with humidity and temperature sensors installed in the main cables, enabling real-time monitoring to prevent weather erosion and extend the structural lifespan through proactive maintenance measures.
