Zhuhai Fishing Girl

The Fishing Girl is a granite sculpture composed of 70 stone pieces that portrays a young woman raising a pearl toward the sky. The artwork stands on a rock formation in a bay and commands the waterfront landscape with its presence.

The sculpture was created in 1982 when the region was developing as an economic zone and an artist from Guangzhou Art College was commissioned to build it. This moment marked a turning point in Zhuhai's history and the monument became a symbol of that transformation.

The figure originates from a regional legend about a dragon king's daughter who lived as a fisher girl and loved a mortal man. This story shapes how locals and visitors understand the sculpture and the meaning they attach to it today.

The monument sits on a rocky peninsula and can be reached by several bus lines. Access is free and the site remains open throughout the day for visitors.

From the sculpture you can look across the bay and see Macau's skyline on the horizon. This view connects two different places and makes the spot an unexpected vantage point between two worlds.
