Zhenhai Bridge, Stone arch bridge in Tunxi District, China.
Zhenhai Bridge is a stone arch structure that spans the Heng River with seven arches supporting its length. It directly connects both sides of Tunxi Ancient Street and provides access to the historic merchant quarter in Huangshan.
The structure was originally built in 1536 during the Ming Dynasty and underwent major reconstruction in 1699. Following severe flooding in 2020, the bridge was rebuilt again to restore its function.
The bridge marks the western starting point of Tunxi Ancient Street and serves as a natural gathering point for visitors exploring the historic quarter. It connects two parts of the old merchant district where local commerce and daily foot traffic create a living connection to the past.
The bridge is reachable on foot through Tunxi Ancient Street or via local bus connections and remains accessible throughout the day. The riverbanks provide good walking paths, making the crossing straightforward and safe.
During the 2021 restoration, workers recovered original Ming Dynasty stones from the river after the flood and reintegrated them into the structure. This makes the bridge a place where historical materials and modern reconstruction meet.
