Port of Nantong, Deep water port in Nantong, China.
The Port of Nantong is a major shipping facility on the northern shore of the Yangtze River estuary, divided into nine river port areas and three coastal port areas. The complex sprawls across multiple zones designed to handle different vessel sizes and cargo types.
The port was established in 1904 with modest initial operations. It underwent major expansion during the 1990s with the addition of the Langshan port area, significantly increasing its handling capacity.
The port is deeply connected to the region's shipbuilding industry, which continues to shape the industrial identity of Jiangsu today. Visitors can observe the bustle around the shipyard areas and see how maritime construction remains central to local economic life.
The facility has 88 berths in total, with 24 designed for vessels exceeding 1,000 tons and 14 specifically equipped for ships over 10,000 tons. Keep in mind that the complex is vast, and moving between different sections may require local transportation.
The port achieves water depths of up to 19.1 meters (62.7 ft) for bulk cargo operations, allowing access to vessels of all sizes. A quayside that stretches over 4,000 meters along the Yangtze River represents significant infrastructure for the region.
