Yanzi's Tomb, tomb in Yushan, Changshu, Jiangsu Province, China
Yanzi's Tomb is a quiet site in Suzhou dedicated to the ancient scholar Yanzi, known as a disciple of Confucius. The site consists of traditional Chinese gates, a simple round burial mound on a hillside, old stone tablets from different dynasties, and pavilions positioned along the approach path.
The tomb was built during China's Western Han dynasty, making it over 2000 years old. Yanzi was a student of Confucius who gained great reputation through his learning ability and skill with words, later becoming known as the "Master of the South."
The name honors an ancient scholar known for his wisdom and still revered today. Visitors can observe stone structures and inscriptions that reflect the region's long-standing respect for knowledge and fairness, values that have been prized here for many centuries.
Access is via a gentle ramp from North Gate Street, with pavilions along the way providing shelter. The grounds are easy to walk and require no special equipment, with the best visiting time during cooler months when weather is comfortable.
The site was deliberately chosen on a hillside for its favorable Feng Shui properties, symbolizing balance and good fortune. Two stone inscriptions from the Ming and Qing dynasties show how different generations maintained and renewed this memory across centuries.
