Tiger Hill Pagoda, Ancient pagoda on Tiger Hill, Suzhou, China.
Tiger Hill Pagoda is a seven-story octagonal structure in Suzhou standing 47 meters tall with distinctive double walls built using traditional Song Dynasty masonry methods. Its construction uses traditional techniques that remain visible in the layered stonework.
Construction began in 907 CE during the Wuyue Kingdom and took 54 years to complete. Additional stories were added later during the Ming Dynasty.
The pagoda forms part of the Yunyan Temple complex and displays traditional Chinese Buddhist building techniques. Visitors can observe the craftsmanship evident in the double walls and octagonal design.
The structure has been closed to visitors since 2010, but you can view its architectural details and tilted form from the surrounding Tiger Hill paths. The area around it offers clear views of how the pagoda leans from different angles.
The pagoda tilts three degrees from its vertical axis, creating a 2.32-meter difference between its top and base. This lean developed over centuries due to foundation settlement issues.
