The Changmen Gate structure incorporates three gateways, with a central passage for vehicles and two lateral passages designated for pedestrian traffic.
Dating from ancient times, this western entrance of Suzhou Old Town connected to major landmarks including Tiger Hill and the Lingering Garden.
The area around Changmen Gate hosts the Ga Shenxian Festival from April 12th to 14th in the lunar calendar, celebrating Chinese mythology figure Lü Dongbin.
Visitors can access the gate through multiple bus routes, including numbers 31, 54, and 501, with designated stops at Changmenhengjie station.
The gate underwent transformation in 1934 when authorities replaced the original narrow structure with a Roman-style architectural design featuring three distinct passages.
