Hohenfelde, Residential district near Alster River in Hamburg, Germany.
Hohenfelde is a residential area in northern Hamburg located near the Alster River, composed mainly of apartment buildings and local shops. The district also includes a public swimming facility and educational spaces for creative pursuits.
The district grew from rural areas featuring mills and fields that gradually gave way to urban development during the 1800s. This transformation was finalized in 1894 when the area was incorporated into Hamburg.
The Modecampus on Armgartstraße is where fashion students work on their designs and creative projects. The area has become known as a center for hands-on creative education.
The Alster swimming hall with its long-distance pools is open year-round for lap swimming and fitness training. The waterfront and public spaces are easy to reach and well-connected to surrounding neighborhoods.
Two different artworks define the waterfront: Edwin Scharff's bronze sculpture depicts three men in a boat, while a figure by Stephan Balkenhol appears to float on a buoy in the water. These pieces blend art history with the area's relationship to the river.
