Spitzberg

Spitzberg is a mountain summit that extends over several kilometers from Tübingen to Wurmlinger Chapel and reaches a height of about 474 meters. The terrain connects Tübingen's old town with this chapel through a network of walking paths.

Archaeological excavations revealed that this area was settled very early, with traces of human activity dating back to the Stone Age. These early settlement traces show the long history of the place.

The southern slopes show you old vineyard terraces with sandstone walls that were built by monasteries and church communities. These structures shape the landscape and tell the story of a long tradition of wine growing in this area.

The place is reachable via several marked walking trails that pass through a protected landscape area and are well signposted. The paths work for different fitness levels and offer regular views of the surrounding area.

The slopes house a wide variety of plant and animal species, including many rare snail types that thrive in this protected area. This biological diversity makes the place a valuable habitat for specialized species.
