Steinenberg Tower, Steel observation tower in Tübingen, Germany.
Steinenberg Tower is a steel structure about 12 meters tall standing at an elevation of 492 meters above sea level over Tübingen. The narrow steel frame allows for 360-degree views from above, and an open stairway leads directly to the viewing platform.
The tower was designed in 1898 by Edmund Friedrich Autenrieth and financed by the Tübingen Beautification Association. A major renovation took place in 1998 when the original steel structure was preserved and renewed.
The tower is part of a tradition of viewpoints created in the region during the late 1800s to offer people access to views over the surrounding landscape. Today it serves as a place where visitors can experience the openness of the land and understand how the city sits within its natural setting.
You can reach the tower via footpaths from Schnarrenbergstraße or through forest trails near the BG-Unfallklinik bus stop. The routes are well marked, and the climb up the open steel staircase is straightforward for those with good mobility.
On clear days, you can see from the platform all the way to the Swabian Jura and the Black Forest, including the distant Wurmlinger Chapel. This far-reaching view is especially clear in winter when the air is more transparent and the landscape stretches far into the distance.
