Paula Zundel and Margarethe Fischer-Bosch, daughters of industrialist Robert Bosch, established the museum in 1971 to honor painter Georg Friedrich Zundel.

The museum welcomes visitors without advance reservations and organizes guided tours every Sunday, with special programs for children and seniors.
The institution transformed from a city museum to a charitable foundation in 2003, supported by private donations and funds from the Zundel family.
