Wilde Schneeburg, Oberried

The castle site stands at 860 meters above sea level, positioned on a western edge of Hochfarn mountain near the Brugga valley point.

First documented in 1302 as nuwe unde wilde Snevspurg, the castle met its end in 1314 when Freiburg forces destroyed it during regional conflicts.

The Schnewlin family, who ranked among the wealthiest families of medieval Freiburg, constructed this fortress in the late 13th century.

While no walls remain visible today, visitors can reach the location through hiking trails that lead through the surrounding Black Forest landscape.

The castle site contains scattered rubble stone masonry and ceramic artifacts indicating the previous existence of a residential tower structure.
