River Quest, River rapids ride in Brühl, Germany
River Quest is a rapid river ride built by Hafema at Phantasialand in Brühl, opened on 26 July 2002. Its round boats, styled like bat wings and seating nine, rotate randomly through friction with the channel. The course runs over several levels, with two vertical lifts raising boats 22 metres to the highest of three drops, an 11-metre plunge. The building is themed as a medieval castle or warehouse, with grey stone, tan plaster, dark timber and faux rock.
River Quest opened in 2002 at Phantasialand as part of the Mystery themed area. The ride represented an addition to the park's water-based attractions.
The boats are shaped like bat wings and rotate randomly through friction with the channel, which is why the ride is marketed as water roulette. Until the end of the 2013 season, visitors outside the ride could fire water fountains at the boats as they passed the first curve after the station.
Boats seat nine riders and spin freely through friction with the channel, so no fixed seating position is guaranteed. Riders must be at least 1.40 metres tall because of the forces on the drops. The two lifts raise boats to 22 metres before the highest of the three descents, eleven metres.
