Krün is a mountain village municipality in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen region situated at about 875 meters in elevation. The area spans roughly 36 square kilometers of Bavarian Alpine foothills with green meadows, forested slopes, and views of mountain ridges.
The first documented mention dates to 1294 when two farms belonged to Benediktbeuern Abbey. Over the centuries the settlement grew and came under different administrations, shaping its development as a mountain village.
The name comes from an ancient stream that shaped early settlement in the area. Today the village displays traditional Alpine farmhouses and maintains a strong connection to the mountain landscape.
The village offers various accommodation options from hotels to traditional inns and vacation apartments for different needs. The location sits conveniently between Munich and the Alps and serves as a good base for hiking and activities in the mountain region.
The place gained international attention when a major world summit was held at nearby Schloss Elmau in 2015. This event brought global focus to the small mountain region for a few days.
