Lustschloss Tschifflik, Château in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.
Lustschloss Tschifflik is an 18th-century château ensemble in Rhineland-Palatinate with a main building and two residential houses. An approximately 4-kilometer wall surrounds the property and encloses terraced gardens along with various pavilions.
The building was constructed between 1715 and 1716 as a summer residence for Stanisław I. Leszczyński, the exiled King of Poland. The château sits on land that was already inhabited in the early 12 century.
The gardens were designed according to Baroque principles and show how the aristocracy of that time staged and used nature. Visitors can still follow the structure of this garden art today with its various areas and water features.
The grounds are extensive and require time to explore, especially if you want to see the terraced gardens in full. Sturdy footwear is recommended as there are paths at different elevations.
Archaeological excavations at the northern end of the property uncovered remains of a small castle from the 12th century. These older foundations show the site held importance long before the Baroque château was built.
