Darß, Baltic Sea peninsula in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany.

Darß is a peninsula on Germany's Baltic coast that lies between the open sea and shallow lagoon waters. The coastal strip takes in wide forests, long sandy beaches, and wetlands covered with reeds.

Slavic settlers gave the peninsula its name and founded fishing villages that focused on harvesting the coastal waters. Over the centuries, a maritime way of life took root and continues to shape the region today.

Traditional thatched houses line the village streets, their doorways painted in bright colors following local custom. Fishermen still work the shallow lagoon waters, and their boats rest in small harbors along the shore.

The peninsula can be reached through train stations in Ribnitz-Damgarten and Velgast, from where buses travel to nearby villages. Marked cycle paths connect the different settlements across the area.

The forest covers much of the peninsula and serves as a resting place for thousands of migrating cranes each autumn. Older trees show clear wind shaping from the constant storms blowing in from the sea.
