Tower 185, Commercial skyscraper in Gallus district, Frankfurt, Germany
Tower 185 is a glass-clad office building with 55 floors that rises 200 meters above Frankfurt. The base features a distinctive horseshoe shape wrapped in natural stone and aluminum panels that create a varied surface texture.
Construction started in 2008, though initial plans called for 185 meters and 50 floors before the design was revised upward. The building opened in December 2011 with the expanded floor count.
The building represents modern German office architecture through its combination of functional design elements and environmental certifications including LEED Gold standard.
Ten elevators move people through the building's roughly 100,500 square meters of usable floor space. Most areas are well-equipped and straightforward to navigate.
The building relies on green district heating and sources 42 percent of its power from carbon-neutral sources. This energy approach is noteworthy for a tower of this size.
