Boulevard der Stars, Walk of fame at Potsdamer Platz, Germany
The Boulevard der Stars is a pedestrian passage along Potsdamer Strasse spanning about 320 meters, with brass plaques set into red pavement. The plaques feature the names of film professionals and entertainers who worked in the German-speaking entertainment industry.
The project started in February 2010 during the Berlin Film Festival with Marlene Dietrich's first star. The official opening took place in September of that year, when 39 more stars were added.
The stars display names and professions of actors and directors who shaped German cinema. As you walk along the boulevard, you can see the signatures and birth dates of the honored individuals embedded in the red pavement.
The boulevard is located at Potsdamer Platz and easily reached on foot; take your time walking slowly to discover individual plaques. The entire route is accessible without barriers and open at all times, as it sits outdoors in central Berlin.
The project received one million euros in funding from the European Union for economic development. This financial backing enabled the creation of the boulevard as a modern tribute to German film history.
