Beisheim Center, Modern architectural ensemble in Berlin-Mitte, Germany.
Beisheim Center is an architectural ensemble at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin-Mitte, made up of three towers each standing about 230 feet (70 meters) tall. The buildings share stone facades with contemporary detailing and bring together hotels, private residences, and underground parking under one consistent design.
The ensemble was built between 2000 and 2004, during a period when Potsdamer Platz was being rebuilt after German reunification. The site had been divided by the inner-German border and left largely empty for decades before construction began.
The Beisheim Center houses two international hotel brands, the Ritz Carlton and the Marriott, which give Potsdamer Platz a distinctly upscale character. Walking through the area, visitors notice the shift between hotel lobbies, private residential entrances, and open pedestrian paths running alongside each other.
The center sits directly on Potsdamer Platz, which is served by both the S-Bahn and U-Bahn, making the rest of the city easy to reach on foot or by transit. The Tiergarten park is a short walk away and offers a good break after exploring the surrounding area.
The Beisheim Center takes its name from Otto Beisheim, the founder of the Metro retail group, who financed the project and personally lived in one of the penthouses in the complex. It is one of the few commercial buildings in Berlin named directly after its investor, who also resided there.
