Bundeswehr Central Hospital in Koblenz, größtes spezialisiertes Krankenhaus der Bundeswehr
The Bundeswehr Central Hospital in Koblenz is a large medical facility with 506 beds and around 1500 staff members including doctors, nurses, and pharmacists. It operates 19 different departments covering surgery, eye care, orthopedics, cardiology, psychiatry, and numerous other medical specialties.
The hospital was founded in 1957 to provide medical care for soldiers, building on a military medical tradition dating back to 1805. Since 1970 the facility has also treated civilian patients and became a teaching hospital in 1987 with connections to the universities of Mainz and Bonn.
The hospital serves a mixed patient base where military and civilian care happens side by side in the same facilities. Over time it has become a place where both groups receive the same level of medical attention and support.
The hospital is easily accessible by car or public transportation and has facilities for people with disabilities. Clean and organized hallways help visitors and patients find their way around.
The hospital operates its own helicopter service called Christoph 23 that flies injured people from emergencies directly to the facility. This rapid rescue capability is part of a larger emergency system working together with ambulances to save lives quickly.
