Kurt Schumacher Bridge, Road bridge in Koblenz, Germany
The Kurt Schumacher Bridge is a road bridge crossing the Moselle River in Koblenz, connecting the districts of Metternich and Moselweiß. The structure spans 355 meters and was built using prestressed concrete construction.
Construction began in 1987 with a ceremonial foundation stone laying and the bridge opened to traffic in 1990. This crossing replaced a previous link between the two districts.
The bridge carries the name of Kurt Schumacher, the first chairman of the Social Democratic Party in West Germany after World War II.
Separate paths for pedestrians and cyclists are available on the southern side, making the crossing accessible for different users. Parking facilities for commuters can be found at both ends.
The bridge reaches a height of 15 meters above the water surface, where the Moselle River maintains a depth of five meters.
