Burg Sulzburg, Medieval castle ruins in Unterlenningen, Germany

The rectangular Gothic castle structure sits on a basalt tuff hill at 492 meters above sea level, featuring an outer bailey and a shield wall.

The castle, first mentioned in 1335 as Festi Sulzpurch, belonged to the Lords of Neidlingen until imperial troops destroyed it during the Thirty Years War.

The name Sulzburg originates from regional Germanic terminology, indicating a fortification constructed near marshy ground or mineral springs in the area.

Visitors can reach the castle ruins within 15 minutes by foot from Unterlenningen center, with the site remaining open for public access throughout the year.

The castle contains two distinct palace structures, with the newer one measuring 17.2 x 9.8 meters and the older section spanning 13.6 x 4.2 meters.
