Burgruine Sommerau, Castle ruin in Sommerau, Germany.
The castle ruins stand on a rocky spur 45 meters long, with remaining walls reaching heights of 10 meters above the Ruwer River.
Built around 1200 by the Trier noble family von der Brücke, the castle was first documented in 1303 when Johann Walram entrusted it to the Archbishop of Trier.
The structure includes a square keep 16 meters high with a vaulted cellar, showing medieval German defensive architecture and noble residence features.
The ruins are accessible through hiking trails, and visitors can observe the Sommerauer Waterfall created where the rock was cut to power a historical mill.
The castle's residential tower contains a preserved latrine projection supported by red sandstone consoles, revealing medieval engineering solutions.
