The German Textile Museum houses a collection of 30,000 historical textiles, garments, tools, sample books, catalogues, and fashion journals from different periods and regions.
The museum evolved from a teaching collection established in 1880 at the Royal Weaving School before receiving official museum status and relocating in 1979.
The museum maintains one of Germany's largest reference libraries dedicated to textile studies and organizes exhibitions focusing on contemporary textile art themes.
The museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM between November and March, and from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM between April and October.
Due to conservation requirements, the museum rotates its extensive textile collection through temporary exhibitions to protect the delicate materials from prolonged display.
