Schönwasserpark, Public park in Oppum district, Krefeld, Germany
Schönwasserpark is a large public green space in the Oppum district, spread across multiple hectares with a central pond, conifer groups, and distinctive red beech trees throughout. The grounds feature heritage buildings that reflect its historical significance.
The site was a farmhouse called Schoenwater in the early 1700s before tobacco manufacturer Johann Helgers built a mansion there in 1830. Later, the grounds were converted into a public park and underwent improvements through the EUROEGA 2002plus initiative.
The mansion within Schönwasserpark now functions as a state-operated training facility for teachers, supporting educational development in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The park is accessible via Schönwasserstraße in Krefeld-Oppum and easy to reach on foot from the surrounding neighborhoods. It works well for walking routes and relaxing time near the water, especially on warm days.
The site is protected as a landscape conservation area, preserving both its historical value and natural features in a way that is uncommon for city parks. This designation highlights its significance beyond typical urban green spaces.
