Latumer Bruch, Protected area in Krefeld, Germany.
Latumer Bruch is a protected area in Krefeld covering wetlands with willow forests, alder swamps, ponds, and natural grasslands. The landscape displays distinct habitats shaped by different plants and soil types.
The area received official protection in 1982 under IUCN category IV with a focus on habitat management. Additional conservation measures were introduced in 2017.
The area takes its name from Haus Latum, a manor house at the edge of Lank-Latum that reflects historical land ownership patterns. Visitors can sense this connection to the past while walking through the protected landscape.
Access the area through Lohbruchweg from the north or Latumer Bruchweg from the south, with marked paths for exploration. Wear sturdy footwear since the ground has wet areas and uneven terrain.
Two ancient Rhine riverbeds run through the reserve and fill with groundwater during high water events. These natural basins play an important role in flood retention and drainage.
