Waterloo-Tor, War memorial gate in Osnabrück, Germany
The Waterloo-Tor stands as a classical triumphal arch with ionic pillars, combining features of both a city gate and a commemorative monument.
Following the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, local citizen Gerhard Friedrich von Gülich donated 1,000 thalers to construct this memorial for Osnabrück soldiers.
The memorial displays gold capital letter inscriptions honoring the local fighters who served under British command during the Battle of Waterloo.
Located in the Heger-Tor Quarter, the monument stands 20 meters east of the original gate position and now serves as a pedestrian-only passage.
The structure presents two distinct faces: a simple city gate appearance from the old town side and an ornate memorial design from the outer ring road.
