Lukas-Mühle, Historical watermill site in Hürtgenwald, Germany.
Lukas-Mühle is a watermill site located at the confluence of two streams between Brandenberg and Vossenack. The foundation stones and mill pond remain visible today, showing where water once powered the grinding machinery.
Lukas Kirstgen established this mill in 1569 as an independent operation separate from an existing mill nearby. The structure remained in use until 1951, when it was completely demolished.
The site features an informative signboard that documents the mill's significance during World War II and the battles that took place in this area.
The site is accessible via hiking and cycling trails that run through the Hürtgenwald area, with parking available nearby. Access is possible year-round as the location is open to visitors at any time.
A memorial stone on the grounds commemorates Lieutenant Friedrich Lengfeld, who died in 1944 while attempting to rescue an American soldier from a minefield. This episode reveals the tragedy of battles that devastated this otherwise quiet region.
