Enzian

Enzian is a mountain summit in the Bavarian Forest that rises to 1285 meters and is surrounded by thick forests. Multiple hiking trails wind through the dense trees and offer views of the surrounding landscape along the way.

The area served as a boundary marker between the counties of Cham and Regen since medieval times and acted as a natural reference point. The mountain has maintained this role as a geographical dividing line to the present day.

German mountaineers regularly place their names in the summit register located at the mountain peak, following a local custom of documenting ascents.

The summit is reachable via several marked routes, including the E6 European long-distance trail that connects between different mountain ranges. Hikers should bring sturdy footwear and dress appropriately for the season.

The summit takes its name from the gentian flower, a rare wildflower that blooms on the slopes during warmer months. This botanical feature makes the mountain interesting for nature observers and plant enthusiasts visiting the area.
